Thank you Will and that's an interesting perspective I'm gonna reflect on a while. To answer my own question, I think it will happen at some point, just not any time soon. As you said once robots can design robots then things get interesting. Imagination will become reality.

I dont see us becoming batteries like the matrix, but as pets for entertainment. Robots of the future will be able to create an insane amount of power so they likely won't need us for anything but entertainment and novelty
