Is anything secretly being used as a substitute for palm oil that may also be contributors to deforestation? Ex. Rapeseed.

Also I just want to say thank you. I gave up on my journey of being a primatologist for financial reasons. Deforestation has always been an important issue to me. I had accepted the reality that we wouldn’t see any more Orangutans by the end of my lifetime. It’s been a dream of mine to see them in person in Borneo and Sumatra. They’re absolutely incredible creatures.

On a somewhat related note, why has Animal Planet lost every grain of educational value over the last 10-15 years? I grew up watching documentaries and learning about animal conservation via Animal Planet. It gave me the interest I required to grow up and become a biologist. I can't help but feel it's flooded with garbage reality tv now (no disrespect to the puppy bowl).

I know you're just the host of this event and you may not have a more in depth answer for me, other than ratings, but I'm curious. I think the younger generation today deserves what made Animal Planet become established.

This is still a joke among my friends and I. My friend's dad is a math professor at the University of Maryland and sometimes we write bits from the algorithm on the white board in his office.

How do you possibly get involved in this career? It's a combination of stereotypically "unfruitful" careers, yet you've made it work. I went to university for conservation biology and gave up looking for careers in the field. How did you find success? What's your story?
