Once. They just wanted to see my ID and ask my story to see if I was running from something or in trouble.

They were nice. I respect their concerns. They later came back and gave me a slurpee they picked up from 711

EDIT: sorry, this isnt my AMA. Ill stop commenting now

EDIT 2: also forgot to mention I also got picked up by a few cops and they gave me a lift. One was off duty the other was not

For me was taking an offer to drive this dude's car who admit to me he was too drunk to continue himself. After maybe 10 minutes down the road I realized this guy has some unknown mental issues so I told him I was going to turn around and give him his car back. I didnt feel comfortable being around him

At that point he flipped out and grabbed the steering wheel attempting to steer the car. I slammed on the brakes, he kept flipping out, crying etc. I waited and calmed him down a bit before heading bsck to where we started off

Motel- a few times. Being in the outback, it was very hot (almost 50*c) humid and mostly long wait times averaging probably a day for a ride in the hot sun. There were a few days that the combination of heat/frustration/rude people throwing garbage at me would put me in a bad mood and I needed to simply relax.

Food- those sidekicks instant pasta. Super light, cheap, easy to cook and clean.

Budget - probably $20/day maybe but greatly depends. I wasnt too concerned with money.

Didnt carry anything too unique. Probably some bourbon and a harmonica lol

The road taught you - it was more or less experience. Pushing myself as far as I could do and experiencing ultimate freedom. One of my favourite days was in the outback dropping a bit of acid in the morning and getting picked up by a trucker who was part of a notorious biker gang. Kinda one of those "I had a interesting day" days
