How do you decide whether it's appropriate to use an anonymous source, particularly in a case where "authorities inside the police department" may have an interest in framing a story in a way that isn't exactly fair or honest? Is there a vetting process in place, and how far up the editorial chain does that go before a decision is made?

Does the paper have a reporter assigned to a police department beat? Obviously there's some overlap here between city coverage (plz send Tristan Hallman back to City Hall) and criminal justice courthouse-type coverage (which is I guess why Jennifer Emily has been all over this shooting?), but is there one reporter specifically building sources within and studying the issues that affect policing in the 9th biggest city in the country?

Can the Cowboys beat Seattle on the road? Obviously, they're not the feared "Legion of Boom" team of years past, but I'd never count out Russell Wilson or the difficulty of winning in The Clink. Thanks.
