I hope I don't get down voted too badly here... But that's kind of what the US government wants. It's more profitable when there's instability, just the sad truth.

Medicare and Medicaid are huge indicators of underlying issues with our system. 1/3 of Americans, ~112 mil, cannot afford their own insurance and rely on Medicare or Medicaid. Obviously a portion of these Americans are elderly so it makes sense, but the fact that that many Americans can't cover their own costs is a huge red flag and a black mark on our country.

Without my 2 mood stabilizers my antidepressant sends me into a mania more severe and unpredictable than any acid trip, or shroom trip I've ever seen, and I've seen some doozies. I'm fairly certain my psychiatrist has never tried any of the 5 pills I take daily yet I'm confident in her abilities to prescribe them. Some of the anti-psychotics I've been on have had had some wild effects too. While I see what you're saying about psychedelic experiences being difficult to understand without trying the substance first, I feel that understanding the chemical nature as well as the effects on other people (not yourself) are more important. Especially considering that the nature of any trip is largely dependent on each individual users current mental states.
