Sorry you've only got a shitty answer so far, but as someone studying in the field I have a kneejerk reaction where I have to advise people to look elsewhere than Reddit for advice on this kind of thing. You have no idea what kind of expertise the people advising you here have.

You essentially have to commit to using finasteride as well or your original hair will continue to recede behind/around the transplant. It's a drug that not everyone tolerates well as some people can experience a drop in libido, erectile dysfunction and other side effects. It's also quite an expensive drug if you're buying it as Propecia, although there are ways around that to make it cheaper.

Also, I think they are growing in popularity, but it's the kind of thing that people might not necessarily shout about having had.
