Sometimes they just give up, at least in Madrid. The last time I had to run for the connection I found the flight assistant saying "yeeeah, we assume you wouldn't make it so we didn't board your luggage" and offered me to either catch the plane and get the luggage later at the arrival or to wait for the next plane and fly with my luggage.

Wait wut? They made you feel that pain without worrying too much BECAUSE those could be your last moments alive?
