I've heard that it's terrible to vacuum baking soda. Is this true? I'm a big fan if using baking soda to get smells out of carpets and upholstery... Should I change my tune? (I have a small upright eureka bagless)

Thanks for your reply! Awesome link with everything I could ever want to know about cleaning my carpets, especially with an elderly dog and an all-carpet apartment.

I (embarrassingly enough) had never thought of sweeping up as much of the baking soda as possible before using the vacuum. I currently have a nice pile of soda on the carpet of my car after spilling gas stabilizer in the back. Oops.

Yikes! Thanks for letting me know. We won't be too distraught if we wreck this thing, it was cheap and we see it as a disposable appliance, but it's always good to know about other people's experiences with a similar product so we can delay the inevitable as long as possible.
