Let me try this from a Steel Plant perspective. We had people who got hurt quite, simply because they were not following the safety guidelines given to them. I'd assume the same thing happens at OPs place of employment. At least once a week some kind of safety issue happened, not always serious where people lost arms or were injured beyond coming to work, though.

You can get an associates in Nuclear Eng and get into a plant. I just accepted a position recently. Good pay. Great benefits.
