Wow, that's so awesome. I figured the sheer size of the place and the amount of cabs would make dispatch a bit silly. The company I work for is the only cab company in the city and we run a dispatch system. My role is to be on the other end of the radio to assist in emergencies and for just general queries about bookings or locations in general. It's interesting to see how other places operate, thanks for the response!
edit: I think our rate of fare evasion is about the same too, we have a bit of a motorcycle gang war happening so we get some weird stories too!
edit #2 (with a sample of said odd occurrences): Well, we've had a heavily patched and tattooed man pull a gun on a driver and order him to drive interstate. The journey took 2 hours or so, they reached a barn/farmhouse in Northern NSW and the man ordered the driver to drive up and behind it, away from street view (not that anyone was around). He asked the driver to stop, promptly puts the gun away, pulls out $300 and says "that should cover it" before exiting the vehicle. We still have no idea why he pulled the gun on the driver.
Another time, we had a guy jump in a cab with a shotgun in a plastic bag. He paid too, awful courteous these gun-wielding fellas.

Hi! I work for a cab company in Australia, how often do you get people evading fares and also how does the system work there? Do you get mainly people hailing you, or is there a booking dispatch system or something?
