How often do animals get sick or die in the store? What is the procedure in either case?

How do the people who operate these scams justify what they do? Do they think "well we are scamming rich Americans/Europeans, and we need money much more than they do, so it's fair"? Do they feel any guilt about it, or feel that they have no other choice than to participate in the operation? Do they just not care at all about how victims are affected?
