Hey guys thanks for doing this! I'm a bit late bit hopefully one of you guys could answer me in the next few days. I'm a mix engineer and a lot of tunes my clients ask me to make things wider, or louder or more compressed.

I feel like putting compressors or m/s eq on the master bus in the mix stage is kind of stepping on the mastering engineers toes. Why would I put a manly stereo bus compressor plug in or massive passive on the master when they are gonna send it to a guy who's gonna master it with an analog manly slam and massive passive?? Same thing with the mid side eq.

Question 2: Is it ethical to sneak plug-ins on the master bus just to make the mix seem more like a finished product so the client feels like they have a better sounding product, when in reality you are just creating more problems for the future mastering engineer?

The lines have been blurring for me. I usually try to stay away from putting anything on the master bus in the mix stage but I see more people doing it online. Am I missing out on something?
