My parents use an iPhone as accessibility is ingrained I to it, rather than bolted on. It's good for accessing audio books, and barcode scanners can be useful for checking cans in cupboards.
Talking watches are quite handy too.
'Bumpons' are good for things like microwaves, washing machines and central heating. They are different shaped stick-on tactile reminders that can be put over particular touchscreen or dial appliances. You can get them from 3M in the US I think.
