That's also the reason why the franchise had a huge backlash that lingers to this day for reasons I can't fathom. The show changed children's programming forever nonetheless. Maybe not to the extent of Sesame Street and Mister Rogers, but Barney's impact and success led to many preschool programs to be created. Some successful (Blue's Clues and Gullah Gullah Island), others not so much ("Ricky's Room," a Canadian Barney clone)

One thing I've been wondering for a while is this: I know you've trained Barneys around the world, but were you involved with the Barney co-productions in Israel and South Korea? If so, what was that like?

A couple friends (fellow fans) and I have noticed not only did the Barney costume performer in Israel (Josh Saggie) improve come that production's second season (and later in their first, as seen with Everyone is Special), but the South Korean performer seemed to take cues from your performance as the purple guy as well.

Especially since a few were doing some rather out of character (and terrifying things). One almost took children to a religious cult gathering and told them not to tell their parents. Thankfully, the kids couldn't keep a secret.

What's sad is that these costumes seemed to scar kids and they become terrified of the "real macoy" Barney, who actually has trained performers (you being the king of the crop, of course, David). Some of my own classmates said Barney scared them due to birthday party experiences with these sorts of costumes.

Not to answer for David or anything, but that's a knockoff Barney costume (the kind one would rent for birthday parties).
