What is her reason behind that objection?

I'm not the OP (obviously), but felt the need to chime in because I first got hearing aids when I was 4, and happily I never experienced any kind of bullying or related problems for this reason when I was a kid. I always had plenty of friends, and enjoyed all the same activities as any other kid. The only problem I ever had in school was one teacher who simply refused to make any effort to allow me to lip read; the tl;dr there is that eventually my parents got me moved to a different class. So my one piece of advice would be to watch out for any subject in which your daughter is doing inexplicably poorly, because it's entirely possible that the cause may be hearing-related, whether it's a teacher who spends the entire class facing the blackboard, important material that is presented only in audio format, or something else. When a child is older, they may be able to directly identify the cause and talk to the teacher or to you about it, but a six-year-old is probably just going to say that they "hate math", or that "the reading teacher is mean".

That is horrifying. This is the first time I've ever had this thought, but I really, really hope that dog died quickly. I think shelters in the U.S. are often far too quick to euthanize animals who have health problems that can absolutely be fixed and/or controlled, but this opposite extreme also seems awful.

As someone who's interviewed many candidates and interviewed for many jobs myself, I totally agree with you. The right way to get this information: if you don't receive the job, I think it's fine to say something like "I really appreciate your time, and since I would love the opportunity to work with your company in the future, I was wondering if you could tell me what I might be able to do in order to make myself a more competitive candidate for roles such as this one." Maybe you'll find out that there were honestly just so many people who applied for the position that it was pretty much a wash; maybe you were totally qualified but an internal candidate applied for that role and company policy dictated that they got preference; maybe you'll find out that there is some particular certification or degree that the winning candidate has but you don't.

This is great advice! I also wanted to add that it's now very possible for many Jews whose ancestors came from Eastern/Southern Europe to successfully trace their family's histories back for several hundred years. Even for towns that were completely destroyed during WWII, it's now possible to preserve the memories of people who once lived there by researching their information and sharing it with your family.
