It was obviously really exciting for me to join this band, as I'd been a fan since the beginning. Learning all the old songs was a really fun challenge! I had to learn drum parts that had been written and recorded by three different, and excellent, drummers: Hutch (MPPM), Jordan (Fuckin' A), and Kathy (TBTBTM, NWCS). Each has their own style and it was cool to perfect my version of each one.

On all the songs we've written as a band since I joined, I've tried to keep that essential Thermals DNA in the drumming while allowing my own personal style to breathe as well. It's been pretty easy to do, actually, because my personal drumming style is pretty close to the Thermals classic style already!

We LOVE movies! We watch movies together all the time, at home and on tour, and our new record Desperate Ground was written to be like an action movie. It was inspired by these scenes, among others... http://www.clashmusic.com/features/the-thermals-best-action-scenes

I play a 70's "big R" Rogers kick drum and a Rogers Dynasonic metal snare from the same era. No toms! Then I have a 14" dark-sounding hi-hat, an 18" crash, and a 21" crash ride. I try to keep it as consistent as possible.
