It seems like the people who got caught in these instances were too greedy or stole too much too fast. Are there smarter criminals out there? Like indicated by strings of packages that go missing, but no idea as to who may be stealing them?

It seems like the benefits you describe of the air bnb exist in condos, cabins, etc which typically exist in multiple units owned by a single company or individual. With most major cities and vacation destinations having weekly condo rentals is the only factor for the air bnb price point and ability to rent for shorter stays (though you can find things like cabins to rent for a single night)?

839 (or even lower) is enough to give a general overview about types of problems encountered and customer service. Social experiments are hard because they can't be done in a lab and require human data. While there might be some error in their data (trolls, liars, people who didn't update reviews after an honest mistake was fixed, etc) the sample is large enough that the reviews have merit.

I would think Dr. Lieberman is researching places where there is not anonymity ie social networking sites too. People can be dicks, why? Psychological aspects like this are important to understand, not just accept. Nothing that increases human understanding of a subject is unimportant; we should strive to know all we can.
