Are there any characters/storylines that you wish you spent more time on or less time on in favour of others?

Also, something that stuck out at me. The end of Season 3 seemed to be taking Sawyer into a really dark place. Starting with killing Cooper and ending with his merciless execution of Tom. But at the beginning of Season 4 he seems relatively cheery considering. I mean, were there plans to take this further or was it felt that killing Tom was the climax of that story arc?
