What sorts of qualifications / prerequisites does one need to have in order to become a cab driver? Do they factor in how well you know the roads?

Are there any specific companies you would recommend working for? Do you "rent" the cab from your employer?

Dan Wilson! I don't know if this will be completely missed since your AMA was done about 8 hours ago but I used to rent a practice space from Citysound in Minneapolis, near the Bryn Mawr neighborhood. I have reason to believe this practice space used to be occupied by Semisonic because that's what the guy renting it out to us said! Also there was a Semisonic sticker in there. It was a large room with a smaller room in the back right corner with black lights in it.
