How the prisoners and their families don't manage to get attention either seems crazy. I was much happier pretending this only exists in movies

I am guessing that you may have some knowledge of other prisons just through talking about that one.

Do you think this kind of violence is wide spread, or can we hope that that this is pretty rare?

Your last paragraph really struck a cord.

One of my best friends recently got convicted of rape. Basically he was drunk and this other guy was drunk too and had been sleeping just before (this was after a house party and they crashed there).

I guess when the guy sobered up a bit or properly woke up he realised he wasn't into it (consent was given with a nod rather than a yes which also sees to make all the difference) and hit my friend with a glass bottle. I wasn't there, I will never know, but I do believe my friend could misread signs, but he would never ever be forceful like that. When police were called by the others in the house the guy said it was rape, it seems like he did so because he was straight and in a relationship and could have been done for assault. The police officer was muslim and didn't say a word to my friend because of course the gay guy is the devil

He's in an english prison so I think it's very different, but I find it so horrible to imagine that not only is he in a terrible situation like this but that there'd be guards abusing their powers like that.

I hope you continue with your fight and that some day soon people listen
