Not the OP (obviously) but it seems like many designers/developers use Kickstarter as a pre-order system to ensure that the demand/interest is there for the product before sending it to market — like a relatively inexpensive, direct-to-consumer focus group that comes with easy mechanisms for sharing online.

Seems to me a misuse of the platform’s original intent, but who the hell am I to judge?
