I was flying from Pikwitonei to Ilford once. Down low, following the tracks because the weather was bad. Come around a corner and there, at the other end of a straight stretch of track was the train.
So I flashed my lights, thinking there's not a chance anyone will see I'm here. Then the lights of the train flashed back.
A neat connection to make. Cool moment in my career.

Most airlines have alcohol restrictions that are more conservative than the regulator. 12 hours prior to checking in for work for example.
I have 15 years of experience and never have I suspected the other guy might be intoxicated. While we do have some social time on the ground, most layovers are pretty boring.

We generally do a flow, followed by the checklist. The flow we do right away, but the checklist we sometimes delay while we wait for things like the chocks signal, or if we have to call for an agent or something like that.
Lights might be missed on the flow. Doesn't happen often though.

737 pilot chiming in.. I would love it if they updated the flight deck. I had such high hopes on the max... Sigh, stupid LUV.
