There's no protection for drinking alcohol, so (at least in an at-will state) an employer could definitely fire you for drinking, even off premises. Interestingly and somewhat ironically, I think alcoholism would muddy the waters here, because you could theoretically sue them for discrimination based on a disability. I would think there's case law out there on this point, but it's not my field
