Thank for the answer! =) Yes, you are right to the point about what the worst for HKers is -- we have very little control over our own future because we cannot hold our government accountable. A lot of young HKers just feel hopeless.
Anyway, treasure and defend your hard-earned freedom in Taiwan, never give up!

HKer here,
According to the Sino-British Joint Declaration, HK can has high degree of autonomy under the "1-country-2-systems" principle. Also, we should have all sort of freedoms unchanged, such as freedom of the press, of assembly, of speech and etc. Thus, China should NOT have direct control over Hong Kong. It was promised in Chinese proverb that "The water of the river would not bother with the water of the well," symbolizing China would not interfere the governing and politic of HK.
But in reality? nope, we are fucked.
All the rich business ppl and politicians are now playing their own version of game of thrones to gain favor from China, as HKers have absolutely no influence on the HK government. (for example, the government can put through any unpopular policy and fuck around if she insists -- NO ONE CAN/DARE TO STOP IT.) The leadership of the government, aka the power center, is largely appointed by the China government.
So what pawn ppl use for their GoT? the media they owned, the, the gang they associated with, the dirty-money they can offer under the table.
Yea, HK is pretty screwed by these people.

I am a Hong Kong person who now live in US, and it was a big surprised to see you guys on the reddit! =) First, salute to all of you! You guys have started and maintained a truly impressive movement, and I hope your demands would be answered by the Taiwan government eventually.
So here are my questions:
I have been following the protest since the first day and noticed that one of the slogans was "Today HK, Tomorrow Taiwan." While, as a HK person, I truly agree with that, I am curious how you guys think about that.
* 1. In your eyes, how does Hong Kong look like now? What is the worst thing you see in Hong Kong now that could happen in Taiwan in the future?
* 2. It seems to me that, this is the first time Hong Kong people actively support such a movement in Taiwan. Do you think this kind of interaction would increase and go both directions?
* 3. Some ppl suggested that the organization of the current Sunflower movement was partially influenced by the protest against the Moral and National Education in HK, which was led by Joshua Wong and his group, Scholarism in 2012. What do you think about that?
Thank you for doing this AmA, and GOOD LUCK!
