As a former UC prof I say good for you! College textbooks are a scam tax on the lower and middle classes just as lottery tickets are a scam tax on the poor. As a junior professor I used to be sent so many sample copies of textbooks in the hope that I would assign them. I only ever assigned one, because it included some software that I thought the students would enjoy (and didn't get any commission or anything like that). But thereafter I would just write my own course materials and distribute them through soft reserves.

It's the responsibility of professors to impart knowledge to the best of their ability in a way that is accessible to everyone - and not leave their students crippled by debt for many years after graduation.

Do you ever watch TV medical dramas? Are any of them realistic, or do you find them preposterous and laughable? I'm a fan of the genre, but two new ones (Code Black and Chicago Med) seem less realistic (to my untrained eye) than ER.
