Reminds me a lot of the story of Martin Pistorius. Fell suddenly with what seemed like a flu+fever, got worse, became completely infirm for an extended period in an unaware delerium, then mysteriously recovered. (Except his became a lot worse before it got any better—and, probably because of that, his conscious awareness came back years before any of his motor control did, and then only partially. After his recovery, he wrote a book. Here's an NPR feature about him.)
The diagnosis there was cryptococcal meningitis—basically, fungus inflaming the brain. I have no idea if doctors commonly check for that, but it seems at least that nobody ever thought to in his case.

Have you tried asking for it? They're probably paying you what you'll put up with.

Oh, they know. "Make me your default!" they cry—and every time, I tell 'em, "sure, honey, from now on, you're my default." You'd think they'd eventually realize, though, that I'm just not a one-browser man.
