I think you're being mildly unreasonable. Some markets are so slow or over saturated with drivers that, at times, they can wait over an hour between $3 calls. It's a luxury to be able to see the drivers GPS. With a traditional taxi, the dispatcher might be holding the call for his dude who's still stinking up the bathroom at Arby's after a ferocious beef/cheddar session.

No they don't. Drivers are paid 1099. However, with milage and other qualifying expenses written off, very, very little tax is paid.
