Often times, it seems like stories in the Guardian are shadowboxing with the Obama administration. They say X, you respond with Y, that shows where X is an untruth. They respond with Z, and on it goes.

Do you have that feeling as well? To what extent does the timing of when you plan on running a story affected by the news cycle? Do you still give the administration an opportunity to comment on stories before they are published -- and have you withheld details to protect operational security at their request?

This is not quite right. The librarian of congress is senate confirmed. The president may nominate whomever, but without senate agreement the librarian of congress would not be obligated to leave.

As a practical matter, the oversight and appropriations committees have significant weight regarding who ultimately is nominated.

I think you mean 10 year terms, renewable.

Hey folks, I've spent a lot of time working with three of you, and I wonder what you think are the best approaches to fostering inside-outside collaboration between outside hackers, insider coders, and the broader community of folks who care about public access to the workings of Congress?

We will miss you. As someone who works on those issues at the federal level, there are few members of congress who match your energy and expertise and you will be tough to replace. I hope we can get a few more touchdowns before you (hopefully) become governor.

This ongoing drain from congress of smart qualified members is a huge problem. Not your fault, but boy do I wish we had a solution for it.
