It's not even a trump/obama thing, as he uses this language towards Obama policy, yet calls himself a correspondent not an op-ed writer.

I have no problem with any news outlet pushing opinion articles under that proper section and so long as it's clearly disclosed. But now the corespondent and even investigative sections are just glorified opinion pieces.

this is also the reason student loans tend to have much higher rates than say your average 20 year mortgage. I believe Bernie sanders used this line in a rally to the point of "why can someone buy a $500,00 house and get a 3% loan, but a college student gets a rate upwards of 10%+". The simple answer from a Finance guy, is that the house is a collateralized loan, if they default, the bank takes the house.

Student loans don't have any asset backing them up. They are also a little more risky on a couple of fronts, First; the person giving the loan is taking a bet that you, an individual, with no other factors, but your own skill, will be able to turn that student education into some situation where you will be able to repay your loan. Not to say this a bad investment per say, but its a lot harder to model than say real-estate prices, or any real asset one might give a loan out on and tie risk to it. To add to this, the rates people get for student loans aren't really based on what your education will be in, one might assume someone getting a Mechanical engineering degree might have a better chance of repay their loan than someone getting a Political science degree, but the two people would probably have a similar interest rate.

Second, the very simple fact that theres not really anything the bank can take away from me for not paying back my student loan. I stop making my house or car payments, and I no longer have a home and means of transportation. Simple psychology would expect me to put paying these at a much higher priority than a student loan. Instead, as Rook785 said, the effects are much less "bubble popping wise" and more gradual decline in productivity. The debt will follow me forever, and continue to balloon, casuing overall productivity decline.

There is also the macro economic issues that the mass availability of student financing is having on the general higher education system, the decline in value added of the average degree vs. 20 years ago, but thats a differne't discussion.

Doing some serving trays for family/friends this Christmas, I've got some bubinga off cuts left over from previous projects, that I'm wanting to use in these. nothing crazy, simple strips from table saw then laminated together.

What other domestics/exotics do you think go good with bubinga?

From my experience from quite a bit of hiking, camping, hunting in bear country around North America, most people who actually have experience with this will tell you that bear spray is the best thing to use. Most bears will just leave you alone, or worst bluff charge, bear spray will literally stop them dead in their tracks and turn them around. Beyond that when I've actually been on a bear hunt the guides had semi-auto shotguns with slugs.

When I hike alone in bear country I'll have spray on a chest rig as well as a 10mm glock with hardcast rounds, but I'll go for the spray first. I've been competitively shooting most of my adult life, consider myself fairly competent with firearms, and I'd be totally fine if I never get to the point where I have to draw a sidearm against a charging bear. It really is a last case, everything else has gone to shit, type tool to use against a bear.

Bears are smart, and much of their evolution (as I understand it) is to get as much food as they can with the least amount of energy expended. You rarely hear of bears taking down something like an elk, because while they might be able to, it's a lot of energy expended. And as for humans it's generally an unknown for them, they would much rather just eat some foliage. That said, once they understand they can get easy food from humans they will stay locked on that, so what you said about keeping your camp clean is so true, just don't leave food and trash around, and if you see a bear treat it like a fucking animal that can kill you, not some fun thing to take a video of (i've seen this while hiking, woman got mad at me for "scaring the cute bear away and running her video"). Get big and make some noise and the majority of bear encounters will go fine for you.
