Hey Kevin - longtime fan... Thanks for doing this AMA!

Quick funny story that I have to thank you for - Hope you see it:

I was leaving the parking garage at Toronto's Eaton Centre about 3 years ago and pulled up to the booth to pay. I was about to get gouged for a $20 parking fee. Fuck that shit... It's a fucking MALL. Anyway, parking attendant-guy turns to look at me and stops... just stares at me for a couple awkward moments. Then he points at me and says, "...You're Kevin Smith, aren't you!"

I'm told I look like you, so I could see how he'd entertain the idea, but this guy was flat-out convinced. I laughed and said "No man... I wish though."

"Fuck that man, you're KEVIN SMITH, MAN!!"

I'm like, "Dude, really? If I was Kevin Smith, would I be driving a '97 Dodge Intrepid??" Thing had rust spots and dents in the hood from when I hit a deer one night. Pile. Of. Shit. He says, "Whatever Kevin Smith... I'm a big fan, man. This one's on me!" ... he then opens the gate and I get to sail out in my sweet, dented Intrepid - into the sea of hell that is downtown Toronto traffic. Thanks for being the shit so I could save $20!

And a question:

As a former clerk who made a movie about clerks, what kind of stories / crazy run-ins have you had with real clerks that are clearly huge fans? Any creepy fan-clerk moments that happened while you were in their place of work as they were clerking? I discovered Clerks a long time ago when I was working as a clerk, and it pretty much saved my life back then. Gave me the chance to laugh at my job a little more:) Then I fucking quit and moved on.

Thanks for sharing your talents all these years. Your movies / comics / books / podcasts / ball-hockey antics are fantastic. :)

edit: formatting.

edit 2: Added a link to a comparison shot... I shopped Kevin's glasses/eyes over mine - don't feel like showing myself fully.

TL;DR: Telling Kevin about the time I was mistaken for him and got my expensive parking fees waived because of it. I couldn't convince the parking attendant that I wasn't Kevin Smith, nor that the real Kevin Smith would never be caught driving the shitty car that I was.

Hey Kevin - Gotta know:

What are your favorite munchies if you've smoked up? Favorite place to smoke?

Hi Ray. Didn't know you were coming today, very nice surprise.

Don't really have a question I suppose... I really just wanted to say thank you. Your music has meant a lot to my wife and I over the years.

I need to tell you that we saw you perform at the Dundas Harvest Picnic in Aug. 2011 in Dundas, Ontario, which was one of the best concerts I've ever experienced, so thank you for that. It was also one of the most memorable nights of our lives...

When I heard 4 months prior that you were coming to play not 10 minutes from our home, I was elated. I could never get tickets to see you when you were only ever as close as an hour away before this, so this was huge news. Immediately I knew that I'd propose to the love of my life there, during your set.

The day of the show came and security almost made me take the ring out in front of her on the way in the gates... I was sweating bullets. Made it though... Almost ruined on the way in! The day was perfect all-around, otherwise. Didn't get nervous until you started playing.

'Our song' is 'Hold You In My Arms', and as it's opening notes began, my stomach jumped straight through my throat... During the instrumental section I planned to do it. The instrumental came and I went for it... She first asked me if this is real life, then said yes:) Then... we got to dance together to the rest of your set, which was just beautiful. It was as though you were playing to only us. Unbelievably good.

We got married a year later to the day... We danced our first dance to 'Hold You In My Arms' and we danced our last dance of the night to ' Shelter'. You were the soundtrack to our most important day. We got word from an acquaintance that was at the 2nd Harvest Picnic show (which was the same night as our wedding) that the organizers of the Picnic caught wind of our story and announced it onstage to the crowd before Emmylou Harris' set... I would have loved to have seen that in person, but was happily busy.

Thank you for your music... It's meant the world to my wife and I. Hoping you come back to our backyard again soon.

TL;DR: I proposed to my wife at a Ray concert because his music makes us want to dance together, always - much like at the wedding. Thank you, Ray.
