Not Sam but I’ve worked in a news room for ten years. Volunteer or Intern. Be present as much as possible. News rooms are frenetic places. When you are visible, you get work. Ingratiate yourself. I would much rather train someone with a good attitude then work with a pro who’s an asshole.

Also if possible, sign up for educational programs offered by a local station.
