The original sentence was likely 2.5years, he was let out on probation after 6 months with a 2 year suspended sentence. His original two year term was always on the table, just suspended.

When or if you violate probation, that suspended sentence kicks in. This is how things like this work. He didn’t get sentenced to two years for peeing hot, he had his suspended sentence invoked.

He could have been caught driving with no license, or shoplifting, or vandalism. All would have resulted in the suspended sentence kicking in.

Probation is itself “serving time”, it’s just serving it in a more lenient way. If you can’t follow the terms, it gets less lenient and you go back in.
