I didn't know about the expiring powder deposition patents - exciting.

I'm still saving up my pennies for a MakerBot, especially after reading Makers.

EDIT: Thanks for pointing out that MakerBot isn't fully open source anymore. Some people (me included) won't be bothered by that, and only want the best/most capable model out there. There's also something to be said for choosing the most popular one, too - it will have a larger community of people using it, which comes in handy if you need help, and fosters a better chance at innovation, IMO.

Thanks for listing the alternatives - I'll check them out if I ever get to the point of actually buying a 3D printer. I get the impression that none of them are as popular as the MakerBot, though.

Hi Cory! I'm a huge fan, met you a few times at various conferences and readings. You've always had great answers to my questions about big things, so here's a little one.

When I finished reading Pirate Cinema, I was struck by how well you communicated the culture, language, slang, and overall vibe of the squatters in London. You've made the UK your home, but you're not originally from there.

How did you go about researching the slang? I have no frame of reference, being from the Pacific Northwest of the U.S., but it felt really authentic. Did you have advisors? Research trips in the streets?

I know I'd be terrified of getting it wrong, if I tried to portray a culture not my own in such detail. You've done it splendidly. What's your process?

Cory does write novels for "adults" (separate from YA). Makers, Someone Comes to Town, Rapture of the Nerds, Eastern Standard Tribe, and Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, to name a few.

They're all excellent, and available to read for free (under a Creative Commons license). I highly recommend you check them out.
