Thanks for the reply! I had forgotten that Virginia died there. This was maybe thirty years ago, and during the winter as well, and I remember thinking how cold and dreary it must have been. It certainly was that winter. But he turned his misery into art and that's pretty amazing. RIP Virginia Poe.

Yeah I think he’s basically lamenting the fact that cops can’t fuck people up with impunity anymore. A lot of cops from that era feel the same. Rodney King wasn’t some aberration. That was standard department policy

I’m more disappointed than concerned. But an extremely rigid worldview is how so many of that generation deal with their trauma and PTSD. In their minds they were “the good guys” so no regrets. Sad really. A life lived unexamined…
