Hi! I used to work at AP as a vocabulary developer and helped create a lot of their metadata and schema for digital items and some archival content. There's a team that works on this digitally. I haven't worked there in a few years, but that team keeps intense taxonomies about people, places, companies and their relationships as well as news topics in AP Stylebook format. They also write autocategorization rules for text and deploy relevant metadata into journalists' systems. For example, if you're a photographer at the Oscars and you know you just shot Tom Hanks with a woman who is likely his wife, the metadata can suggest who that is and the photographer can get on to the next shot.
To answer your Qs, from when I was there we created our own schemas for most of it, based on ANSI ISO standards as much as possible for integration into other systems (i.e. stock tickers, or weather data). And yes AP has a TON of controlled vocabularies. I imagine when the OP talks about "not needing to organize" they mean they personally don't need to organize or catalog the digital stuff because the team I described above and journalists are now doing it for them :D

even if you just allowed us to stream ONE show (i.e. all the travel episodes) it would be great. As it is it just jumps around from show to show and you never know if you've seen every episode of something. It's super frustrating. Any sort of navigation would be great too. (disclaimer: I build website navs for a living so I am picky, but seriously it's painful.)

you guys have been friends privately & publicly for a really long time! can you give us any hints on maintaining a friendship for such a long time, especially when it's part of your public persona and livelihoods? or is the answer to that a weekly podcast? :)
