I work for NI (the company that creates LabVIEW) and I think it's awesome that you guys use it.

Did your friends know what you were doing in there?

For my travel needs I used fareboom quite a bit, they usually come out to be the cheapest for me - make sure you have a credit card that has no foreign transaction fee and fairly good exchange rates, as the way they stay cheaper is they might book your flight via their travel agent in a 3rd country.
For example my flight from US-Europe roundtrip was booked in CAD, and it came out to be ~$50 cheaper than kayak, sometimes I can't even find these prices on ITA.
