To what extent is the future of Wikipedia just going to be paid advocacy? I am mostly looking at articles about modern politics and geo-politics.

Dude, same here! This might all be in my head but I feel like things changed around 2010 or so. All of my wiki-friends are gone and a lot of the new people are punks and kindergarten-dictators. When i pole my head back in, community discussions these days are straight out of Mean Girls and its impacting the quality of content too. It just isn't worth my time any more.

Same boat. I go back from time to time. Maybe I just got older in the interim but the shot got weird with the community. Things fall apart.

I can't argue about AN/I, I guess I mean more the person to person interactions. I made some great friendships on Wikipedia, people that I am still in touch with, that doesn't seem to be available any more.

Though on the AN/I bit: I was a kid, I was dumb, I made mistakes and people were forgiving and made an investment in integrating me into the broader community (which paid off) where as now it seems like the ban hammer gets dropped and the first whiff of trouble.

How do I prove that my income is low enough that I should not have to pay the penalty?
