Our friend who completed the AT said her biggest objection was that Bryson didn't emphasize trail ethics, such as leave no trace, pack it in/pack it out, etc. She recommended "AWOL on the Appalachian Trail" by David Miller as a better introduction. (I've only read the Bryson book, myself.)

Once in a while I think I hear Tom Lehrer as a forerunner to some of your comedic songs ("Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn", "Dear Daily Mail", "Vegemite Song"). How much or how little were his classics from the late 1950's/early 1960's an influence on your songwriting?
