The disinformation you open with is not exactly new, tho... we just give it different name. But point taken. @David, in Existence there was no mention of any 'information gatekeeping' function within the information infrastructure everyone accesses every moment of the day. Do you assume this can be fixed? And if so, with algorithms or crowdsourcing?

That would be more like hacking than disinformation, surely? Firewalls would be the obvious metaphor to reach for, but how do you build systems to fact-check information in real-time before and as it goes directly into our heads? After all, augmented reality is already being called 'the empathy machine'*, so hacking our brainchem isn't really necessary, no?
