I have this theory that the local public defenders office is colluding with the prosecution. I could name multiple people i know who were charged with crimes that never even spoke to a lawyer before they took a plea deal. Id imagine the acquittal rate is way below the national average for people who rely on the public defenders office.
Is there anything that can be done about this? How could i look into these details further and perhaps find proof of what i think is going on?
Id like to add that its a well known fact that if you go into court with a public defender from this particular county that you are guilty. And the area is so depressed that people can't afford to hire private counsel. The police know this and they prey on the poor people who they know wont be able to shoot down their shoddy evidence and shitty affidavits that usually consist of just one sentence or two.

The problem is by the time the AMA reaches the front page, the people doing the AMA have left already. It happens every single day. They need to do like /r/science does and postpone answering questions for an hour.

I had a very reasonable federal judge for my drug trial 10 years ago here in the U.S.
The prosecution took over 3 years to sentence me from the time that i pled guilty and the judge thought that should count towards my sentence.
There are always stories on reddit about judges making awful decisions but there are good judges out there making the same amount, if not more, great decisions.
