How about this: don't all diamonds, including conflict-free ones, contribute to demand for diamonds overall and support the price that conflict diamonds can fetch? It's like the argument against child pornography - the abuse is fait accompli by the time anyone is looking at the porn, but we still consider it harmful because it contributes to the demand for further abuse. I doubt a perpetrator would find much leniency even if the specimen in question was CG faked, or lab-grown, if you will.

If I ever hang onto a woman long enough to get to the point where this becomes an issue, I hope she is on board with my abhorrence of the industry in general.
