I would just like to say on my behalf and I'm sure many other Redditors, that you played a very important role in shaping our minds and helping us grow and learn as children. Even though people made fun of some of the corny jokes and songs that used to be on the show, they helped us remember things nonetheless and it helped us recognize you for who you are. <3

No, the issue with antibacterial soap is that it doesn’t actually work any better than regular soap. Soap works by forming micelles around anything on you that isn’t psychically stuck to you, and the water washes it off. If everything is already off of your hands to begin with, the antibacterial agents in the soap don’t actually do anything.

Another issue is with resistance. If you’re using chemical means to kill bacteria, there’s often the concern that bacteria will develop ways to counteract those chemicals. Some of the ways they can develop to counteract the chemicals can also allow them to be resistant to antibiotics.

And the final reason I’ll mention is that some bactericides can have detrimental effects on human health. Triclosan, for example, was recently banned by the FDA because it stays on the skin well after washing, seeps in, and disrupts testosterone production. If anyone has antibacterial hand soap or dish soap in their house that isn’t used super often and has been around for a few years, there’s a good chance it has triclosan in it. Toss it immediately.
