Just to add to what you're saying (because I agree with a ton of it -- esp. what you say about the poster's wife being willing to try other things even if some one thing is off her list):
those that have tried it don't like it or may have experienced pain from it
Absolutely true. It may be slightly more nuanced (and I guess I'd fall into the group that may disagree with your idea that most women aren't interested in anal sex), at least in my experience. I've always really enjoyed anal sex, and all of my past girlfriends (and my lovely present girlfriend) have enjoyed it as well, but several had bad experiences with previous lovers. Namely shitty lovers who only cared about anal sex for their own pleasure. While I won't claim I don't get any enjoyment from it (of course I do), frankly I get way more excited by it knowing that it brings us both pleasure (and won't push for it if it's only a one-way street).
In that way, I wonder if anal sex doesn't wholly belong in its own category, but is a lot like any sort of niche sex play (like bondage, or watersports, or public play), in the sense that, because it's not the "default" sort of sex act (that's a really lackluster descriptor but I'm having a hard time finding something better) it requires some negotiation of boundaries, interests, and a clear line of communication.
I wonder if anal sex feels like it belongs in its own category because it's become just mainstream enough to exist in this weird middle space between "normal" and "niche" sex (no doubt at least partially influenced by trends in pornography), so that shitty non-communicative lovers can treat it like a prize to be won, instead of something that requires a more specific kind of negotiation within your sex life.
I dunno. What do you think? I'll concede that one can't assume that all women are just waiting for a lover that treats their bums right -- there are going to be women for whom anal sex is unpleasant, painful, not enjoyable. And of course they shouldn't be forced to endure it for the sole sake of their lover. I've perhaps just been with a bunch of lovers who were open and interested to trying something with me what I wanted them to enjoy with me. I guess I wonder to what extent the growing awareness (hell, maybe even popularity) of anal sex in society at large has led a lot of selfish lovers to leave the impression that it is something in its own category, and led to a lot of bad experiences on the part of their partners.

Totally not trying to be a jerk pointing out a typo, but I got a laugh out of someone having episodic "grandma" seizures.
Does that make me a bad person?

Unfortunately his health really went down hill after he lost an arm and had an awful experience with the medical establishment afterwards.

I don't understand how Americans aren't up in arms about the insecure state of your vote-record-keeping. In Canada, federal election protocol is largely mandated and uniform country-wide, and everything (even down to provincial and municipal elections) comes down to paper ballots with an X on them that are then counted multiple times.
Not to say there haven't been some infrequent attempts at vote-tampering in Canada, but I feel that it's likely much tougher, and that vote audits are accordingly rather streamlined. I can't imagine too much of the Canadian electorate accepting a move to electronic vote registers that (in some cases) are electronically insecure, and at worst have no objective paper trail for audits.
For all the huffing and puffing GOP lawmakers seem to make about voter ID laws, why the Christ are they so complacent about the faulty machinery of vote-tallying?
