Sorry to jump in as well. I started reading On Becoming A Person by Carl Rogers yesterday, so far it speaks of these as being certain qualities or attitudes the therapist takes towards the client, and behaviors that can facilitate the creation a helping relationship with them. This along with the way the client perceives the clinician and their relationship with them is what is said to be critical to success in therapy.
