Economists are citing this as a supply side issue. I'd be a lot more inclined to support measures like this if and only if they come attached to requirements to create more housing for all income levels. Besides the abuses stated elsewhere, it just makes the more affluent compete for a shrinking housing pool. This drives up the cost of housing even more and makes it way more attractive to displace low income folks chasing those higher returns and we will just end up right back where we are in a short time.
The problem is so bad and low income folks are at a crisis point that some degree of protection is needed but we can't just kick the can down the road again.
If creating more housing supply is so distasteful to Californians, then why not raise the taxes on various companies and incentivize them to move elsewhere. That should help ease the demand side of the equation.

You point out some of the social aspects of this sort of surveillance. We can see just how well this sort of targeting and manipulation can work thanks to Facebook and the 2016 US elections. That is just one platform (albeit, a large one). Now think about the US government with this information and more. With the repeal of title II, government surveillance, and the current political climate in the US, I'm really concerned about free speech in the US.

That's one of the games I wish the engine would be released open source. I haven't played anything after MW4, MW2 and MW2:Mercs was some of the best mech combat of the series. The source would be great to fix the torso damage bug.
I'm being badgered into trying MWO by one of my brothers, I'll have to dig out my old MS sidewinder joystick for that.

I'd like to see someone be brave enough to attach reforms to prop13 and other laws that prevent the creation of housing to measures like this. I understand that the low income are suffering the most from this, but more protectionism won't solve the equation. But trying to discuss the need to create more housing feels like trying to discuss the need to reduce emissions with a climate change denier.

the Bay Area is one of the most balkanized places I have ever lived, and it seems to do nothing for the area. Despite all the smart people in the area, there is a shitload of stupid here.
