I may be very late to the game on this, but have you ever read "Fixing My Gaze" by Susan R. Barry? It's about exactly what you went through; a person born with unaligned eyes learning to focus them (though Susan did so largely through therapy). It has a bit of neurology lingo but is really fascinating and something you'd probably enjoy!
