To tie on to this dark tangent, my father worked as a CPS Social Worker when I was in elementary school. He always had to be on call on Christmas and some of them he'd have to leave. Do you still have to be on call during many holidays?

Also, when I was a kid our family never went to the fair. Later my father told me admitted that he had to go pick up so many kids who'd been abandoned by their parents at the fair that it had spoiled the fun of it for him and that's why we'd avoided it? Has anything normally fun/interesting been soured by a CPS work experience?

One of my labmates who went to Middlebury College for his undergrad said Julianna went to school there as well (she still goes there?). Although it wouldn't be the same as having Emma Watson or James Franco on your campus, I heard she still had quite a celebrity status (i.e. lots of guys wanting to ask out Stephanie).

Are you ever recognized on the street as a celebrity of sorts? Or do you still have anonymity in your daily life?

I'm an analytical electrochemist, and my friends and colleagues are solidly on board with the existence of global climate change, the imperative of immunization, and the need for publicly and government funded science (as opposed to all private sector, which would likely demand quick success/ROI and prioritize profitability over

However, I have many acquaintances/contacts (through social media) and know of many people that are still part of the massive contingent that is in denial about the imperative to act on climate change, immunize children, and view research scientists as entitled elites.

I know that you have taken tremendous strides to make science approachable to everyone, children and adults alike. What steps can scientists like me take to connect with our communities and hopefully stem the growing divide between those folks who are willing to change their opinions when the encounter new results/evidence/perspectives and those who remain obstinate and even hostile to science and research? Especially in this age of "alternative facts"?
