You mention a field team: How many people did you work with? Do they do normal law enforcement duties, or are they full time handling you and/or other undercover officers?

First principle: It’s rare that a job needs literally the best. Most jobs need the capable. Second principle: People are most likely to notice and want to solve problems that affect them personally. Third principle: Different types of people have different problems. Fourth principle:Most companies want to solve problems for the most people they can, since that earns them the most money.
Combine all of these principles and it just makes sense for a self interested company to hire as diverse a set of capable employees as possible.

I think they said in the commentary that it was supposed to be an in-universe in-joke. It would be like what people quoting Monty Python would look like to you if you didn’t know Monty Python
