Gary, I have used very low carb, moderate protein, high good quality fat and intermittent fasting to lose weight. I was able to take 40 lbs off. I have the same amount to go. I’ve also taken refined flour, sugar, higher carb veg and beans, legumes off my diet plan. I do eat a variety of meat, poultry, fish, dairy cheese and whole cultured butter, above ground veg all within macros. My cholesterol numbers are up.
I’m trying to heal sub clinical hypothyroidism, but my doctor insists the cholesterol is food borne, not part of the condition of sub clinical hypothyroidism. What can I do to get those numbers down and stay off statins? I’m so tired of statins being pushed with so little clinical success. Statins alter QoL so badly, I just can’t do it.
Also, what’s your advice for thyroid patents?

Empathy. This is the stuff of complex PTSD. That whole victim blaming discourse never landed with me either. There is always a clear perpetrator. Always. It’s a hopeless feeling when you aren’t heard. I’m glad you’ve found ways to combat those feelings of helplessness. It goes deep and it’s a long slog to regain perspective and control. Good on you.

My dachshund has early stage kidney disease. I’m switching his food to home cooked. There are lots of groups out there for KD dogs. Contrary to what we’ve been told, these groups advocate for better protein (not less) and for a 1:1:1 protein:carb:fat ratio. This is unlike anything in a bag or can labeled KD.
Do you have experience with this? Or opinions? At first blush, our little man has less urgent urination and he seems to drink less.

Not the OP, but I’ve worked with sexual assault and domestic violence survivors. Therapy is as unique as the individual. That’s said, working with a therapist who has experience in trauma modalities is always helpful. It is hard sometimes to find a trauma or PTSD specialist in rural locations. One thing COVID has helped with is strengthening online therapy communities, so maybe you’d have more luck with finding a virtual doc.
Therapy could include so many types of treatment. I’ve seen and experience a range myself. CBT, meditation, biofeedback, art and journaling, mindfulness, and so forth. Edmonton AB was a hub for community policing and response back in the 90’s. Assuming they’ve continued to be leaders in community level crime interventions, there could be a solid network of care providers up there. Maybe the OP will circle back so you can learn about what’s local.
All my best in your healing. It is hard, I know. I hope you find everything you need.
