Hit the nail on the head. I was an intern at CIPPIC for the fall semester at the University of Ottawa. They do really great stuff there and could certainly use any support! Even just spreading the word and getting their name out there would be a huge help to so many people.

I was really impressed with Tek Savvy in their most recent legal troubles with Voltage Pictures and how they provided a link to CIPPIC's FAQ page on Copyright to better educate customers on what exactly going on.

EDIT: And now CIPPIC is seeking to intervene in that case, just as an update for anyone unfamiliar with the situation.

I met an older fellow at the Chateau Laffayette (a bar in Ottawa for those who don't know) who claims to have walked Diefenbaker's dog. Can you confirm that he had a dog that was walked by a person whose sole job was to walk it? This guy was really drunk, but he said it with such conviction part of me wants to believe him.

Hi Team!

This question goes to Mike Masnick, as I referenced you a lot in a paper I wrote for my patent law course relating to reforming patent legislation in Canada, using the US as an example of what we want to avoid (even though we aren't perfect either). I'm just curious on your thoughts of using some aspects of copyright, like independent innovation, and incorporating them in to patents? Maybe to take things further open-sourcing inventions? Similarly, do you think a "make use of" provision, defined quite narrowly, but not so narrow to hinder small inventors. And would not include law suits as making use of, would prevent NPEs from pursuing frivolous lawsuits?

Also, just a thank you to all of you who are involved in what you do. I interned for a semester at the Canadian Internet Privacy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC), and really admire a lot of the work you folks do.
